Samples should be submitted with a completed hospital or doctor’s requisition form stating the patient’s name, age and sex, the date of taking of the sample, a reference number or unique identifier and the name and address of the person to whom the result should be sent. In the case of a 24-hour urine sample, a 20 ml representative sample is sufficient but the total volume excreted should be stated. For most analyses, prior arrangement with the laboratory is not necessary. However, it is important that the appropriate sample is submitted for the analysis requested.
